BVI NEW INTERNET BASED INFORMATION SYSTEM
The British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission will be transitioning to a new and improved internet-based information system. This new system will offer a thorough electronic mechanism for handling, processing and receiving feedback on documents filed with the Registry of Corporate Affairs.
The launch of the new system will take place in several phases. The first phase of the system came into effect on the second week of December, 2006.
Effective December 11th, 2006, certificates from the Registry may bear an electronic signature but are otherwise unchanged. Certificates will continue to be issued as hard copy originals. In preparation for the full transition to electronic filing, the Registry will no longer provide a label bearing the BVI Company Number (BCN) for the returned copies of the Memorandum and Articles of Association (M&A).
Also, the Registry will only stamp the cover of the Memorandum and Articles of Association. The official stamp of the Registry on the cover of the Memorandum indicates that the document was received, vetted and filed with the Registry. The stamp will no longer be initialed.
After all of the launch phases have been completed the new system will boast several new features including, among others, electronic filing of all documents, e-mail confirmation for documents received by the Registry, electronically signed certificates and electronically stamped and returned M&As.
The system presents a quantum leap in the delivery of services provided by the Registry and will make the processing of the Registry documents more efficient and fully electronic.
